🏆 The Headlines
‘Bẫy Ngọt Ngào’ (‘Naked Truth’) reaches 50 theaters, widest release ever of any Vietnamese film in the US — The film, which was first released in Vietnam in February and surpassed the $3.6 million mark a month later, is set to have the widest theatrical release for any Vietnamese film in the U.S.
“Naked Truth” (“Bẫy Ngọt Ngào”), the feature film debut of renowned music video director Đinh Hà Uyên Thư, was first released in Vietnam in February and surpassed the $3.6 million mark a month later.
The film is a spin-off of the popular Vietnamese sitcom “Chiến Dịch Chồng Ế.” Its cast features Vietnamese actors Thuận Nguyễn, Minh Hằng, Bảo Anh, Quốc Trường and Diệu Nhi. The plot explores the dark side of relationships, including domestic abuse, and how the four friends attempt to free themselves of that.
“We were extremely happy with the results ‘Naked Truth’ achieved in the Vietnam market,” Đinh tells NextShark. “Happy not necessarily because of the box office numbers, but because it demonstrated the audience had chosen us and supported us. Similar to the U.S. market, we hope to bring a good experience to the audience and for the audience to understand our message, which would be the best!”
Ken Jeong Immediately Walks Off The Masked Singer Set After Super Awkward Moment — In last week's episode on Wednesday, April 20, 2022, when Rudy Giuliani was revealed on The Masked Singer (in what many reported as a super "cringe-y and awkward" moment), Ken Jeong staged a mini-protest and walked off-stage.
The Masked Singer, a reality show on the FOX Network, features celebrities singing songs while dressing in over-the-top costumes to conceal their identity. Hosted by Nick Cannon, the reality program's panelists and viewers try to guess the true identities of the masked celebrities based on the clues provided throughout each season.
On Wednesday, the former attorney for former President Trump was voted off The Masked Singer island, and the unmasking stirred up plenty of primetime drama. Giuliani recently had his law license revoked in New York. And in the wake of the 2020 election, the FBI raided his home because he is linked to the people allegedly responsible for pressuring Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to investigate Joe Biden. But despite his notoriety, not all the panelists were immediately aware of who Giuliani was when he popped out of his jack-in-the-box. When Giuliani was unveiled as the secret contestant dressed as a giant rooster, judge Nicole Scherzinger asked, "Is that Robert Duval?"
"No … that’s not Robert Duval," Jeong replied. The former doctor responded, "I'm done," and walked off-stage as Giuliani continued his rendition of George Thorogood and the Destroyers' "Bad to the Bone." But some fans felt that didn't excuse Jeong from appearing on such a lousy show, saying, "I think it was good of Ken Jeong to walk off The Masked Singer because of Rudy Giuliani, but this does not in any way excuse Ken Jeong for being involved with The Masked Singer."
